Sea World/ Busch Gardens
SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Environmental Excellence Awards
In 2004, the awards program was expanded to include community groups who are protecting planet Earth. Although they have primarily funded school groups they encourage "community-based projects, such as those managed and operated by community service organizations, public recreation centers, 4-H clubs and other public, non-profit groups working to protect the environment at the grass-roots level."
History:
Since 1993, the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks have awarded $1 million to more than 100 schools in 35 U.S. states and territories. Recognizing the outstanding efforts of students and teachers across the country who are working at the grass-roots level to protect and preserve the environment, the “SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Environmental Excellence Awards” provide school groups and community groups with monetary support, public acknowledgment and some well-deserved fun at one of the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks. The awards program is held in cooperation with nine conservation and education partners: National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, World Wildlife Fund, Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, Izaak Walton League of America, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, National Geographic Society and the National Science Teachers Association. In addition to setting an example for our young award winners, these conservation and education partners actively participate in the judging process and network with award winners to provide critical support and mentoring beyond their award-winning year. All classrooms or other formally recognized groups formed by and representing schools (grades K-12) in the U.S. and Canada are eligible to apply. Judges are instructed to look for student-driven projects that are creative and innovative in their approach to environmental problem-solving and demonstrate significant environmental impact and student learning.
